POST LIPO/COSMETIC SURGERY TREATMENT

Post-Surgery Lymphatic Massage

Liposuction and Cosmetic surgical procedures usually creates pooling of excess lymphatic fluids which results in swelling, tightness and discomfort with the patient.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) is a specialized massage technique that is recommended by plastic surgeons all over the world, after liposuction or cosmetic surgery, to accelerate the recuperation period.

LDM is the most efficient way to reduce swelling and bruising and is based on scientific knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the Lymphatic System.

Some patients will experience lumpiness to the areas treated with liposuction, Smart-lipo, or Cool Sculpting especially in the abdominal area and flanks, even more so if it is combined with other body contouring procedures

(such as fat injections for what is popularly known as the Brazilian Butt Lift).

This is normal right after your procedure.

The lumpiness is caused by inflammation and trauma from the surgical instrument (cannula) that is used under the skin to extract the fatty tissue.

The tunnels and channels which are created by the surgical instrument will fill with fluid and become swollen with both fluid and left-over fat.

This fluid and left-over fat tends to begin to harden between one week and three weeks after surgery.

There is a risk that the swelling and inflammation could turn into fibrosis, which is a permanent hardening of the area.

After several sessions of LDM, Patricia will incorporate other techniques to break up fibrotic (scar tissue) adhesions with the use of compression foam(s) if needed, dynamic cupping, myofascial release, Lypossage and Madero Therapy.

  • Patricia has extensive training in myofascial release with an 1800-hr Structural Integration certificate of            Northwest Hellerwork Structural Integration and 10+ years of hands-on experience.

Many doctors prescribe Lymph Drainage Therapy after liposuction or other plastic surgery procedures to make sure their patients get the best possible results from their procedure.

Post Lipo/Cosmetic surgery massage in the first 3 months after the procedures helps to ensure optimal results and reduce healing time.

Generally, the earlier, firmer, and more frequently you receive treatments, the better the results and less painful the area will be.

Without specialized massage, uneven results may form.

This Post Lipo/Cosmetic Surgery massage procedure works well and has been demonstrated to show positive results, only after a couple of massage treatments!

Lymph Drainage Therapy also greatly reduces healing time for bruises by cleansing the extracellular spaces where these substances are trapped. Bruises are an accumulation of cellular debris and old red blood cells in the tissue.

Post-Augmentation/Breast Reconstruction (Breast Massage)

Designed to relieve congestion, swelling and discomfort following breast augmentation or reconstruction surgery.

This treatment will release trunk and shoulder tightness, restore range-of-motion and encourage the healing process.

After surgery adhesions might form,  and “webbing” in the armpit (called “axillary cording”) can occur.

Scar tissue likes to attract more scar tissue, which only exacerbates the sensations of pain, tightness and pulling.

Patricia is a Certified Axillary Syndrome Specialist and uses a combination of lymphatic drainage, myofascial release and movement to relieve the chronic pain, swelling and tightness that often occurs after surgery.

For patients suffering from limited range of motion, a single session may already offer profound and immediate results.

WHEN TO START TREATMENT?

Every patient is different; however, most doctors advise their patients to begin their Lymphatic massage treatment after the 4th or 5th day after surgery to obtain the best, and fastest, results. The longer you wait, the more difficult it can be to encourage the tissue toward greater pliability, so you can really benefit from the work in those critical first few weeks after surgery.

Six treatments post-operative is most often enough, if the only area of liposuction was the legs, knees or flanks or breast augmentation.

People getting liposuction to the abdomen and/or abdominoplasty require up to 12 sessions.

Occasionally a client will need more than 12, if they had multiple procedures at the same time

(mommy makeover, breast augmentation, lipo and tummy tuck, lipo and buttock enhancement)

Each session is 55 minutes in length.

We will start with two sessions a week for best results.

As a commitment to getting the best results and to ensure you get optimal appointments, all sessions must be scheduled at once when you book.

It is highly recommended to stay on a monthly maintenance plan (Combination Lypossage & Madero Therapy) after the intensive phase to prevent scar tissue formation and tightening/pulling of the skin, especially after a mommy make-over.
